The River Tweed The Tweed traces a silvery course through the centre of the Scottish Borders. From its source in Tweedsmuir, it winds through Broughton, skirting Peebles, twisting onwards to Galashiels. Deep in the Tweed Valley at the foot of the Eildon Hills, find Melrose once home to Sir Walter Scott. Next, visit charming Kelso, whose graceful five-arched bridge spans the Tweed, was the model used for London's Waterloo Bridge   One more bridge, marks the end of the trail, at Coldstream where the river forms the natural boundary between Scotland and England. It was here in 1787 where Robert Burns first set foot on 'foreign soil' and penned "Cotters Saturday Night" recorded on a commemorative plaque on Coldstream bridge.
