Driving in The Scottish Borders

The Scottish Borders is a destination which has a wealth of things to see and do: from scenic drives to charming towns and villages, historic houses, castles and gardens, all within easy reach, whether you're travelling from the south or the north.

Discover a land whose history is more turbulent and romantic than most, punctuated on all sides by imposing castles, elegant abbeys, stately mansions and dramatic ruins.

The Scottish Borders area is famous for its textiles so it's the perfect place to shop for the softest cashmere, the cosiest woollens and the finest tweeds. The landscapes inspire local craftspeople to reflect the beauty of the land in stunning creations in glass, wood, ceramic or paint.

Opportunities abound for a variety of activities in the Scottish Borders countryside. Walking here is excellent at any time of year with over 1500 miles of dedicated routes to choose from.

One aspect of a touring holiday that gives a real flavour of where you are visiting is the local cuisine. The Scottish Borders restaurants draw on the regional best of the land and sea and serve it up in their own inimitable style. With such a rich larder to hand, it's little surprise that Borders' chefs put on such an impressive spread in restaurants, cafés, hotels and pubs throughout the region. Visit www.eatscotland.com for further information on restaurants and other places to eat in the Scottish Borders region.

We've teamed up with selected businesses in the Scottish Borders to bring you 3 classic driving trails. Why not take your classic car on the fascinating historic route known as the Reivers trail, home to turbulent battles for territory in centuries gone by;  or drink in the fabulous views on the touring trail which follows the famous River Tweed; or how about a breath of sea air whilst you drive along the fabulous Coastal and Explorer trail.

Once you've chosen your touring trail or a mixture of all three, just fasten your seatbelt, roll down the windows, turn on the engine and drive to your heart's content to view some of the most spectacular scenery in Scottish Borders country.

Make sure you try our classic car challenge and see how many stickers you can gain at each of the participating venues on our touring trails. In return, we'll provide you with a 25% discount on JAC Travel's Just Go Scotland accommodation and enter you into our prize draw to win a weekend for a two at a National Trust for Scotland self-catering property of your choice!* (terms and conditions apply)

However you complete our classic car challenge, the sense of well-being you'll find in the Scottish Borders, will stay with you long after you leave.
